Description:
Some scientists believe the Kisi grape is a hybrid of the Mtsvane and Rkatsiteli varieties. Kisi wines produce a relatively small amount of grapes, which ripen neither early nor late in the season. While both classical (European) and traditional Qvevri wines produced from Kisi grapes have unforgettable aromas and flavors, Qvevri wines made from Kisi grapes are characterized by aromas of ripe pear, marigold, tobacco, and walnut.

Qvevri  egg-shaped pots – known as amphora in other wine-making regions – range in size from 200 to 10,000 liters, and are painstakingly hand-crafted.  Before use, Qvevri are carefully cleaned and coated with beeswax before juice is added, and then completely sealed to further prevent contamination and oxidation. The natural yeasts of the grapes allow fermentation without additives, and the natural tannin prevent spoilage without artificial preservatives. The vessels’ conical shape allows yeast and sediment to settle to the bottom freely while the wine is allowed to circulate within the wider center. When buried underground, Qvevri maintain the temperature of fermenting wine like modern temperature-controlled tanks do.
Grape Variety: Kisi is a grape variety unique to  Kakheti Eastern Georgia, it is a low yielding aromatic variety with very distinctive exotic floral aromas. Both Qvevri and European style wines are very perfumed and floral. Delicious with aromatic foods. The wines made traditional Qvevri can be full of fresh pears, white flowers, tuberose, marigold and tobacco.
